Show Me The Sandwiches

READ TIME: Under 1 min

While Niagara-on-the-Lake is overflowing with options when it comes to finding a great sit-down meal, sometimes a sunny day just calls for savouring a sandwich on a park bench! We asked our Niagara-on-the-Lake Ambassadors for their insider tips on where to score a great to-go sandwich, and they had plenty of tasty suggestions!

Hendriks Your Independent Grocer

This grocery store, located right on Queen Street, offers a great deli and a prepared foods section filled with delicious options that can easily be packed up and taken to a local park.

Budapest Bakeshop

Follow your nose down Queen Street, and the smell of freshly baked sweet yeast dough will lead you to this fantastic foodie find. Hand-rolled dough is baked around special dowels to create “Chimney Cakes,” which are then rolled in cheese before being baked again to melt the toppings. Then, the Chimney is cut open, and filled with fresh local produce, cheese, house-made Hungarian mayo, and in-house sliced meats for a sandwich experience like no other!

Cheese Secrets

This decadent shop’s grilled cheese sandwich, made with a signature blend of seven different cheeses, is out of this world! The friendly staff is also happy to assemble a custom deli sandwich tailored to reflect your favourite sandwich fillers!

Gyros on the Lake

Gyros on the Lake serves up a slice of Greece in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Enjoy high-quality Greek food made with only the freshest ingredients. Gyro choices include shaved beef and lamb, chicken, vegetarian falafel, and vegan falafel. Additional to-go options include salads, Spanokopita, hummus, tzatziki, and baklava.

The Outpost at Pillar & Post

This cozy four-season outdoor café situated in the hotel’s Monet-inspired garden offers gourmet sandwiches and wraps, a kid-friendly grilled cheese, and other light bites, as well as craft beer, wine, and garden-to-glass cocktails and mocktails.

Pair that portable lunch with one of the park benches waiting to welcome you along the Niagara Parkway, at Queen’s Royal Park, Simcoe Park, or the Navy Hall parkette.
